Kit guides / OPWDD Self-Direction

Can OPWDD pay for horseback riding?

Horseback riding can be a public lesson, a therapeutic-riding program, or hippotherapy. Those are not the same packet. The official Family Support list names equine therapy, hippotherapy, and horseback riding together; IDGS splits clinician therapy from a community class.

Name the actual offering

A public riding lesson at a stable is closer to a community class. Hippotherapy is a clinician-therapy subcategory and needs the therapy evidence stack, including a physician prescription before funding.

Kit should not relabel a trail ride as hippotherapy, or the reverse.

Credentials matter here

Therapeutic riding and hippotherapy have PATH or license facts that a generic stable homepage will not satisfy. Missing credentials stay missing.

One useful answer

If the stable says they work with OPWDD, is that enough?

It is a lead. It is not a route decision and not a substitute for the public offering facts or the clinical documents when those are required.
