Kit guides / OPWDD Self-Direction

Can OPWDD pay for sensory items?

Family Support names specific sensory items: swings, bean bags, fidgets, noise-cancelling ear coverings, therapy tunnels, and similar goods related to the person's I/DD. These are products, not classes. The listing should never imply they are automatically approved.

Goods have a different evidence stack

A product page needs the item, vendor, price, and a way to show it is for the participant. Some items also need a clinical letter or a last-resort check.

Outdoor playsets, luxury equipment, and typical toys can be excluded even when a sibling item is listed as allowable.

Why Kit still publishes the product

Families search the product name. The useful page says what Kit observed and which route family the item usually belongs to, then starts the request instead of sending the parent to Amazon with no packet.

One useful answer

Can IDGS buy a sensory swing?

Often this is Family Support or another goods route, not a community class. Kit should not force it into IDGS because the word sensory appeared.
